(Santiago, 06 February 2018) – As part of its activities as Chairman of the ASEAN Committee in Santiago (ACS), the Philippine Embassy hosted the first-ever ASEAN Ladies’ Breakfast Meeting for the spouses of the Heads of Post and women officials of the embassies of the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. The breakfast was held at the Hotel Regal Pacific in Metropolitan Santiago.
The breakfast meeting was organized by the Philippines to further deepen the partnership and camaraderie between the ACS family and, more importantly, to discuss the next set of socio-cultural projects and activities to be organized under the ACS.
The activity was chaired by Madame Maria Asuncion A. Punsalang, wife of Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., Marcos A.S. Punsalang, assisted by Mrs. Anna Katrina P. Briones, spouse of Second Secretary and Consul Dennis John Briones.
The ACS is composed of the embassies of the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. The Philippines will be holding the ACS Chairmanship until 31 March 2018. END
PHILIPPINE EMBASSY ORGANIZES ASEAN COMMITTEE IN SANTIAGO FAMILY DAY

(Santiago, 27 January 2018) – The Philippine Embassy, acting in its capacity as Chairman of the ASEAN Committee in Santiago (ACS), co-hosted an ASEAN Family Day at the official residence of the Indonesian Embassy in Vitacura, Santiago. Festivities were headed by Philippine Chargé d’Affaires Marcos A.S. Punsalang and Indonesian Ambassador H.E. Philemon Arobaya.
In his speech, Chargé d’Affaires Punsalang highlighted the need to arrange social and family activities to foster camaraderie and cultural understanding between ACS members, in addition to the group’s regular politico-economic engagements with the Chilean government and other stakeholders in the country.
The Philippine Embassy prepared traditional Filipino games and prizes for the children, such as the Pukpok Palayok, as well as other party games and ASEAN-related trivia questions for adults.
The ACS is composed of the embassies of the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. The Philippine Embassy is the Chairman of ACS from December 2017 to March 2018.
This event was the first official ASEAN family gathering organized under the ACS. END
PHILIPPINE EMBASSY SHOWCASES FILIPINO CUISINE IN A COOKING DEMONSTRATION IN SANTIAGO

(Santiago, 19 January 2018) – Chilean students of the Lo Barnechea Centro de las Tradiciones in Santiago, experienced first-hand how to prepare traditional Filipino cuisine in a cooking class organized by the Philippine Embassy. The eager participants were composed of amateur cooks, small restaurant owners, Chilean housewives, and other food enthusiasts.
Chargé d’Affaires Marcos A.S. Punsalang provided backgrounders on the dishes to be prepared for the day—namely, the classic Filipino Pancit, Mamon and Lumpiang Shanghai. He also shared details on specific Philippine provinces and localities wherein each dish could be best enjoyed by visiting Chilean tourists.
The cooking demonstration was facilitated by Mrs. Anna Katrina Briones, spouse of Consul Dennis Briones, and by Cultural Officer, Mr. Jeffry Aranda.
The cooking demonstration is an annual event aiming to promote Filipino culture and authentic cuisine to Chilean chefs, restaurant owners and housewives.
The Embassy is planning another cooking demonstration within the year this time alongside the embassies of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. END
PHILIPPINE EMBASSY COMMEMORATES RIZAL DAY IN CHILE

(Santiago, 30 December 2017) – The Philippine Embassy in Santiago led by Chargé d’Affaires Marcos A.S. Punsalang commemorated the 121st Martyrdom Anniversary of Philippine National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal with a wreath-laying ceremony and singing of the national anthem at the Plaza Filipinas in Las Condes, Santiago.
In his speech, Chargé d’Affaires Punsalang invited the officials and staff of the Embassy to reflect on the heroism and values championed by the Philippine hero, and to use these ideals as guide in addressing and resolving modern-day problems presently faced by the Filipino.
The Jose Rizal bust in Plaza Filipinas was inaugurated in 18 May 1989. The Philippine Embassy and the Municipality of Las Condes also inaugurated a plaque detailing Rizal’s life and heroism in June 2016.
To this day, many members of the Chilean academe and youth continue to visit the Philippine Embassy to borrow books on Rizal’s life and read copies of the renowned Noli Me Tángere and El Filibusterismo. END
