PH EMBASSY CHARGÉ D’AFFAIRES DELIVERS GUEST LECTURE ON PH ECONOMY AT THE PONTIFICIA UNIVERSIDAD CATÓLICA DE CHILE

Chargé D’affaires, a.i. Marcos A.S. Punsalang delivered a guest lecture on 9 May 2017 at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile on the state of the Philippine economy, highlighting President Rodrigo Duterte’s 10-Point Socioeconomic Agenda and government efforts to ensure that the Philippines’ economic gains will trickle down to microeconomic level.
The graduate students in attendance had the chance to learn of the continuous gains of the Philippine economy and its 6.8% to 7% growth projections, the persistent challenges faced by the government in addressing socioeconomic concerns, the country’s leading industries and opportunities for the Philippines in the ASEAN Economic Community, stressing the complementarities through intra-industry trade among ASEAN countries. The lecture was also a chance for the Chargé D’affaires to discuss ASEAN economic integration and present some of the outcomes of the 30th ASEAN Summit and the Philippine Chairmanship of ASEAN.
The lecture was conducted as part of a series on ASEAN for the course on East Asian studies of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile’s Masters in International Relations program.
PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN SANTIAGO DONATES BOOKS ON PHILIPPINE ARTS AND CULTURE TO BIBLIOTECA SAN JOSE DE MAIPO

To promote cultural diplomacy and to enhance awareness among the Chileans on the culture and history of the Philippines, the Philippine Embassy in Santiago donated books on Philippine Arts and Culture to the Biblioteca de San Jose de Maipo on 06 April 2017.
Charge d’affaires, a.i. Marcos A.S. Punsalang formally turned over the books to the representative of the Office of Congressman Osvaldo Andrade, Cordillera District of the Metropolitan Region, Chile.
Most of the donated books were sent by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines and the National Commission for Culture and Arts. The books will be added to the collection on foreign literature at the soon to be inaugurated San Jose de Maipo library.
PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN SANTIAGO CONDUCTS CONSULAR OUTREACH SERVICES AND OVERSEAS VOTING REGISTRATION IN LIMA, PERU

The Philippine Embassy in Santiago conducted a Consular Mission to Lima, Peru to render consular services such as passport processing and voter’s registration to Filipinos living in Peru and to visit Filipino prisoners.
The team was composed of Charge d’Affaires, a.i. and Consul General Marcos A.S. Punsalang, Ms. Ferlina Camento and Ms. Jeany Macadangdang.
On 25 March 2017, CDA Marcos A.S. Punsalang together with Ms. Livi Varas, the Consulate’s Executive Assistant, visited and distributed some needed items to the seven (7) Filipinos currently detained in Sta. Monica Women’s Prison and in Sarita, Colonia Men’s Prison. Services on passport processing, voter’s registration and assistance to nationals were held the on 24-25 March 2017 at the premises of the Philippine Consulate General located in Miraflores, Lima.
The event was also an opportunity for the Philippine Embassy and the Filipino Community in Peru to present a plaque of appreciation to the Philippine Honorary Consul General Raul Diez Canseco, who ends his duty on 31 March 2017, for serving the Philippine government and the Filipinos in Peru for eleven years. PH EMBASSY IN SANTIAGO CELEBRATES 2017 NATIONAL WOMEN’S MONTH

The Philippine Embassy in Santiago, Chile, held an orientation on the Rights of Household Workers in Chile in celebration of the National Women’s Month on 18 March 2017 at Salon Fundadores in Santa Beatriz, Providencia in Santiago. The orientation focused on the rights and privileges of women household workers in Chile, including their maternity leave, social security and other benefits.
The Embassy invited as resource person Atty. Jose Aris, an experienced Chilean lawyer on consumer rights and labor practice/compliance who has worked for various companies in Chile and Peru. Over 140 members of the Filipino community in Santiago actively participated in the event.
The Magna Carta of Women or R.A.9710 brochures were also distributed to the Filipino community during the event.
The event started with an introduction of Mr. Marcos A.S. Punsalang, Charge d’affaires of Santiago PE to the Filipino community by Vice Consul Raisa A. Mabayo. Mr. Punsalang expressed his appreciation for the participation of the community and assured them of the Embassy’s commitment to ensuring that Filipino workers in Chile are well-versed with Chilean labor laws. Embassy personnel also briefed the community about future activities, and reminded them to register as Filipino community members and as overseas voters for the 2019 national elections. The event ended with closing remarks from Mr. Punsalang, who thanked the resource speaker and the Filipino community for actively engaging in the discussions.
