(Santiago, 28 April 2019) – As part of its economic and other bilateral efforts to deepen engagement between the Philippines and Chile, the Philippine Embassy welcomed high-level delegation members from the Department of Finance (DOF), the Bureau of Internal (BIR), the Philippine Senate and Congress at the Chancery in Las Condes on 28 April 2019. The Embassy also hosted a simple Filipino luncheon for the delegation.
The delegation briefed Ambassador-designate Ma. Teresita C. Daza on the successful outcome of their 7-day study tour in Chile entitled: Meeting and Knowledge Sharing on Mining Tax System and Tax Policy and Administration Reform.
Ambassador Daza highlighted the importance of maintaining close cooperation and exchanges between the Philippines and Chile on taxation, the mining sector and mining tax revenue collection, but equally underscored the importance of environmental protection, social responsibility and sustainable development to complement these good financial practices and regulations.
The World Bank-sponsored study tour was organized as part of the Philippine government’s ongoing preparation toward major tax policy and administration reform to arrive at a simpler, fairer and more efficient tax system—one that promotes investment, job creation and poverty reduction.
The Philippine delegation, accompanied by Embassy officials, met with counterparts from Chile’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Mining Ministry, Treasury, Budget and Internal Revenue Offices throughout their one-week-long visit
The high-level delegation will be conducting a similar study tour in Peru from 29 April to 01 May 2019 in collaboration with Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mining, SUNAT and other stakeholders. END
NEW PHILIPPINE AMBASSADOR ARRIVES IN CHILE

(Santiago, 26 April 2019) – Ambassador Ma. Teresita C. Daza arrived in Santiago, Chile, on the morning of 26 April 2019 to assume her duties as the Philippines’ top envoy to Chile. She was accompanied by her spouse, Mr. David Jose John Jr. Daza.
Ambassador Daza most recently served as the Philippine Ambassador to India, with concurrent jurisdiction over Nepal, from July 2015 to April 2019. She also served as Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. and Deputy Permanent Representative at the Permanent Mission of the Philippines to ASEAN in Jakarta from the period of 2009 to 2013. Her other foreign postings include Romania and Malaysia.
At the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Daza was assigned in various offices such as the Office of ASEAN Affairs, Office of Protocol and the Office of the Secretary-Economic Diplomacy Unit.
As Philippine Ambassador to Chile, Ambassador Daza will also have concurrent jurisdiction over the Republic of Ecuador and the Republic of Chile as non-resident Ambassador. END
ASEAN COMMITTEE IN SANTIAGO VISITS QUINTESSENCE ALPACA BREEDING CENTER

(Santiago, 30 March 2019) – As part of its cultural and trade initiatives, the ASEAN Committee in Santiago (ACS), composed of the Embassies of the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, visited the Quintessence Alpaca Breeding Center in Llay Llay to discuss the marketability of garments and other fine materials made using alpaca fiber.
Quintessence Alpaca Breeding Center is a family-owned breeding farm and is one of the world’s largest exporter of alpaca products. It prides itself for developing genetic research, improvement and a strict breeding and nutritional program for its more than 1,200 alpacas—making their alpacas among the finest in the world.
Farm owner Ms. Maria Herlinda De La Garza also shared the farm’s best practices which could be applicable to ASEAN countries’ agricultural sectors, particularly in sheep farming, dairy and poultry farms, and other animal breeding industries.
As the half-day activity similarly involved ASEAN embassy officials, staff and family-members, it also served as another excellent opportunity for ACS embassies to strengthen ties and discuss other socio-cultural and trade events earmarked for 2019. END

(Santiago, 30 March 2019) – In celebration of Women’s Month in March, the Philippine Embassy in Chile honored five Filipino women leaders for their invaluable contributions to all Embassy activities throughout 2018 and their vital role in the empowerment of female OFWs the country.
Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., Marcos A.S. Punsalang, handed out Certificates of Appreciation to the leaders and encouraged them to continue being excellent examples to the small community of 860 Filipinos in Chile—90% of whom are women in the service sector.
Certificates of Appreciation were given to Mesdames Flora Solis, Victoria Libreslor, Maria Theresa Tapar Barola, Mary Ann Javellana Gandillo and Delia Anrada Nudo.
CDA Punsalang also chaired a meeting on prospective Gender and Development (GAD) projects to be jointly organized by the Embassy and the Filipino community in 2019. He also emphasized the need to showcase Filipino talent and highlight the important role of women in shaping Philippine culture as part of the theme for the upcoming celebration of the 121st Independence Day of the Philippines in June.
