PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN SANTIAGO JOINS RANCO DISEÑO 2022

(Santiago, 18 April 2022) As part of its continuing economic and cultural diplomacy efforts, the Philippine Embassy in Santiago, Chile participated in the Ranco Diseño 2022, an annual trade fair hosted by the Los Rios Region. The Trade Fair was held in Lago Ranco, Chile from 14 to 17 April 2022.
PHILIPPINE BOOTH AND ARTS EXPO
The Philippine booth showcased Philippine handicraft, including handmade decors, capiz shell ornaments, pearl jewelry, abaca purses and brass decors, as well as wooden artisanal products. Photographs and posters of renowned Philippine tourism destinations also served as backdrop for the booths, and DOT tourism promotion videos were shown throughout the four-day event.
The Philippine booth also provided guests the opportunity to sample Philippine cuisine and traditional beverages, including pancit bihon, lumpiang gulay, lumpiang shanghai, adobo, turon and buko pandan.

BILATERAL MEETING WITH THE GOVERNOR AND PRESIDENTIAL DELEGATE
On 14 April 2022, the Embassy’s Charge d’Affaires, a.i., Mr. Jim Tito San Agustin, met with Los Rios Regional Governor Luis Cuvertino and Presidential Delegate Paula Peña in Validivia, Los Rios to discuss bilateral tourism, trade and investment opportunities between the Philippines and the Los Rios region of Chile. CDA San Agustin noted the trade complementarities between the Philippines and Los Rios that both sides can build on to further strengthen existing linkages. He observed that the profile of Philippines-Chile trade relations, including top imports from Chile (Atlantic salmon, paper, poultry and grapes) and major Philippine exports to Chile (machinery parts, fishing materials and desiccated coconuts) can complement the operations of major industries in the Los Rios region, which include paper mills, agriculture and fisheries, and shipyards.
LIVE COOKING DEMONSTRATION
On 15 April 2022, Cultural Officer Jeffry Aranda hosted a live and regionally-televised cooking show at the main hall of Ranco Diseño 2022, where he prepared the classic Filipino dish, pancit bihon, followed by a sampling of the finished product.

EVENT PRESS BRIEFING
On 15 April 2022, CDA San Agustin joined Lago Ranco Mayor Mr. Miguel Meza in a televised Press Briefing during the Ranco Diseño 2022 Trade Fair, where he expressed the Embassy’s appreciation for the excellent arrangements and warm welcome by the local government, and invited guests to the Philippine booth for a sampling of Filipino cuisine, craftsmanship and hospitality.

(Santiago, 19 March 2022) – The Philippine Embassy in Santiago, Chile, successfully completed its main GAD activity to commemorate the March Women’s Month under the theme: Agenda ng Kababaihan Tungo Sa Kaunlaran (#WomenMakeChange) at the PHL Chancery on 19 March 2022. The event was attended by twenty (20) women leaders and members of the Filipino community and was the largest physical FilCom event so far held at the Embassy since COVID-19 crowd limitations were put in place by Chile’s MINSAL (Ministry of Health) back in 2020.
In his opening remarks, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Jim Tito B. San Agustin underlined the importance of celebrating Women’s Month and of attaining nationwide gender and development (GAD) and women empowerment targets. He also highlighted the Philippines’ consistently high ratings and continuing yearly improvements in the WEF’s Global Gender Gap Report and other key gender parity indices by UNESCO and other international institutions.
Finance Officer Ms. Vanessa I. Arevalo conducted a financial literacy seminar centered on saving and investing vs. spending and borrowing. She also played two PITAKA – Pinansyal na Talino at Kaalaman videos sponsored by BDO, BSP and OWWA which were a big hit with attendees. The Embassy’s Alternate GAD Focal Person Ms. Josefina S. Abenoja spoke on Combating Sexual Harassment, particularly in the context of the work environment of female HSWs in Chile. She also played a poetry video on women empowerment entitled Dear Young Woman and other visual aids to support her message.
Aside from the above GAD-centered activities led by Santiago PE’s female staff-members, Consul Mr. Dennis John C. Briones, Consular and ATN Assistant Jay A. Alere, and Cultural and Information Officer Jeffry D. Aranda also briefed the participants on the new DFA Global Online Appointment System (GOAS) for passports, provided basic consular and ATN reminders, and outlined postal voting procedures for the upcoming 2022 PHL Presidential Elections.
The Embassy followed the said talks by serving classic Filipino dishes: lumpiang shanghai, pancit and baked chicken, prepared by Cultural Officer Aranda, and capped the afternoon with a raffle draw for five lucky winners of kits containing COVID-19 safety products, alarm clocks, room air fresheners, coffee mugs and more.
