PHILIPPINE EMBASSY DONATES BOOKS TO THE LA UNION MUNICIPAL LIBRARY

The Philippine Embassy Santiago donated books on Philiipne culture and Philippine-ASEAN relations to the Municipal Library of La Union on 16 January 2020, as part of the ASEAN Book Donation during the ASEAN Week 2020.
The Municipal Library of La Union is said to be one of the most frequented libraries in the region catering to all ages. The handover of books was witnessed by the Mayor and key officials of La Union.
The donation of Philippine books/materials was made possible through the support of the National Commission on Culture and the Arts and DFA ASEAN.
PHILIPPINE EMBASSY PROMOTES PHILIPPINE CULTURE IN LA UNION, REGION LOS RIOS

The Philippine Embassy Santiago promoted the Philippine crafts, textile, cuisine,dances, sports, and tourism destinations in the ASEAN Week 2020 organized by the Chile-ASEAN Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Municipality of La Union from 15-17 January 2020.
The Philippine Embassy introduced Philippine food (adobo, inihaw, cassava cake, lumpia, dried pineapple and mangoes and pineapple juice) through its food booth and food demonstrations which were big attractions.
ASEAN Week 2020 provided an opportunity to present some Philippine folk dances with the Filipino Community performing Tinikling, Itik-itik and Kuratsa to the people of La Union. These performances received warm applause from the viewers.
Philippine Embassy also showcased Philippine crafts and fibers such as piña, tinalak, and abaca during its talks and exhibits.
Philippine Martial Arts Kali, presented as the most flexible form of self defense was also one the most watched and participated booth during the ASEAN Week.
PHILIPPINES SHARES EXPERIENCE IN GENDER MAINSTREAMING

Philippine Ambassador together with the Ambassador of Thailand shared their country´s experience in gender mainstreaming and development to members of the women/feminist groups of La Union, Region Los Lagos on 16 January 2020 at the Office of the Mayor of La Union. Ambassador Daza spoke on the policy, practice and continuing efforts of the Philippine government to protect and promote women and children´s rights in the country.
ACS VISITS COLUN

The ASEAN Committee in Santiago (ACS) visited the Cooperativa Agricola y Lechera de La Unión Limitada on 16 January 2020.
Better known as COLUN, the Chilean milk company is a cooperative founded in 1949. It is presently with some 70 dairy producers from the area, as members. Among COLUN´s products are cheeses, yogurt, butter, UHT cream, manjar and other milk products.
The ACS was briefed on COLUN´s history, mission, operations and plans and was given a tour of its most modern plant. The ACS also joined the ceremony of the Agriculture Seminar in the COLUN Headquarters followed by bilateral talks. COLUN plans to expand its exportation to the Southeast Asian region.
