(Santiago, 22 December 2019) – As part of its Christmas activities with the Filipino community and efforts to promote the Philippines in Chilean communities, the Philippine Embassy organized a charity Christmas event entitled Bazar Navideño for the benefit of the Escuela República de las Filipinas in Los Espejos. The said school is a small educational institution located in the outskirts of Santiago dedicated to advancing the academic performance and welfare needs of Chilean and migrant children. The bazaar was held at the Philippine chancery in Las Condes.
Ambassador Ma. Teresita C. Daza highlighted the importance of the charity event, which is to benefit Escuela República de las Filipinas and at the same time serve as a much-awaited Christmas gathering of Filipinos in Chile to close 2019. Approximately 400 Filipino and Chilean guests attended the half-day festivity, and enjoyed classic Filipino dishes, popular street food, colorful desserts and series of performances. The event also featured Christmas songs by talented Chilean singer, Ms. Francisca Jesus Diaz Rodriguez, daughter of Santiago PE’s local hire, Ms. Paula Rodriquez.
The Embassy sponsored major raffle prizes, including home and kitchen appliances, audio speakers and other gadgets. The grand prize featured an oil painting of the Manila Cathedral by Ms. Anna Katrina Briones, spouse of Consul Dennis John Briones.
The proceeds from the charity event will be officially turned over to the faculty of the Escuela de la Republica de Filipinas during a ceremony earmarked for January 2020. END
