Philippine Embassy officials and staff pose near the Rizal bust located at the Plaza Filipinas in Santiago
(Santiago, 30 December 2018) – The Philippine Embassy in Santiago commemorated the 122nd Martyrdom Anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Plaza Filipinas in Las Condes.
In his yearly speech, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., Marcos A.S. Punsalang reminded officials, staff and family members of the Embassy to always recall and celebrate the fundamental freedoms and inalienable rights Filipinos now enjoy, thanks to the ultimate sacrifice of their national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.
The Rizal bust in Plaza Filipinas was inaugurated on 18 May 1989. The Embassy and the Municipality of Las Condes added a plaque detailing Rizal’s life, achievements and heroism in June 2016.
To this day, Rizal remains a popular historical figure among Chilean youth and members of the academe. END
