(Santiago, 1 September 2018) – The Filipino community in Chile’s rendition of the Singkil received a rousing ovation from more than 400 audience members during the Parroquia Latinoamericana’s Dia del Migrantes 2018 or Day of Migrants 2018. The Filipino community’s participation and performance was managed and directed by the Philippine Embassy’s Cultural Officer, Mr. Jeffry Aranda, with the Assistance of Ms. Ferlina Camento, Consular Assistant and Attaché.
The Filipino community’s Singkil group was also the grand winner of the cultural dance competition sponsored by the Embassy during the 120th Anniversary of Philippine Independence last June.
More than 20 foreign delegations participated in this year’s Day of Migrants—setting up elaborate country booths and organizing colorful national dance performances. The Filipino community’s Singkil was the standout performance out of 18 acts.
Day of Migrants is an annual event held at the Parroquia Latinoamericana in central Santiago. The most recent celebration saw the largest number of participants from the diplomatic corps in Chile, as well as the biggest audience turnout in the event’s long history. END
