(Santiago, 24 June 2018) – The Philippine Embassy in Chile (with jurisdiction over Peru) celebrated the 120th Independence Day of the Philippines with the small but fast-growing community of Filipinos in Peru. Festive OPM songs were performed by community members and traditional Filipino cuisine and desserts were shared throughout the half-day celebration held in Pueblo Libre, Lima, on 24 June 2018.
In his address to the community, Consul Dennis Briones underscored the importance of suffrage as a vital component of Philippine freedom and democracy, and in this regard encouraged all Filipino community members to register and vote during the forthcoming mid-term elections in 2019. He also updated them about the Embassy’s ongoing efforts to identify a new Philippine Honorary Consul in Lima.
In coordination with Filipino community coordinator Ms. Katbeth Kreimer, the Embassy also conducted a consular outreach mission which served 36 e-passport applicants, 14 overseas absentee voting (OAV) registrants, 1 client for reacquisition of Philippine citizenship, and a number of assistance-to-nationals (ATN) clientele.
